FAQ

Where is your studio?

Our studio is located in Troutville, Virginia, just 20 minutes north of Roanoke. Our studio is 1100 square feet of props, blankets, headbands, buckets, and photography equipment. Everything I will need for your session is in studio, set up, and ready to go. This enables the session to run seamlessly, with all items close at hand

What kind of sessions do you offer?

I specialize in newborn photography, maternity, baby's 1st year milestones and cake smash sessions. Throughout the year, when my booking calendar allows, I offer seasonal family sessions, and themed mini session events.

When is the best time to have a newborn session?

I'm so excited to work with your newest little love! Please contact me as early as you can in your pregnancy to ensure I have availability around your due date!

Ideally, I photograph newborns within the first two weeks of life so your little one is still teeny tiny and sleepy. Those early days are ideal because babies are naturally sleepier, making for a calm, relaxed experience. They are more easily posed and comfortable being gently curled and swaddled during this timeframe, which allows for smoother transitions between setups.

That fresh newborn stage captures tiny details—curled fingers, sleepy stretches, and delicate features—that change so quickly. Scheduling your session early helps create timeless, peaceful images that are much harder to achieve once babies become more alert.

However, that is not always possible due to booking schedule, or time spent in the hospital should your little one need extra care. I’m happy to photograph newborns past the two week mark, but please keep in mind that sometimes newborns older than two weeks are more alert, awake, and more resistant to certain poses.

When is the best time to have my preemie newborn session?

As soon as your little one is home from the hospital, we can have the session! I have worked with newborns as small as 4 pounds, and every safety precaution is taken, just as it is with all newborn sessions. Hands are properly washed, and sanitized throughout the session, and I can wear a surgical mask the entire time just to be sure your preemie is not exposed to any germies. Our studio is also sanitized with a steam cleaning. Should your baby arrive earlier than expected, please just get in touch with me as soon as possible to schedule the session!

What kind of training have you had with newborns?

I have been photographing and working with newborns since 2010, and have received on-site training and mentorship from a nationally recognized newborn photographer, Kristen Mackey of Son Kissed Photography. Such training added to my own knowledge and experience to allow for a smooth session flow with newborns, always keeping safety of first and foremost importance. An educator at heart, I'm always continuing to learn and grow in order to remain current in the world of photography.

Do you supply the newborn props, like bonnets, headbands, & wraps?

Absolutely! I have a truly silly amount of props for your session. When you book online, you will fill out a questionnaire that will give me an idea of your preferred colors, and I will pair props accordingly. More and more props come in monthly, so don't worry! There is never a shortage of cute things for me to use to compliment your session. All props are kept tastefully minimal and timeless to keep the focus and attention on your little bundle.

My newborn is older than 2+ weeks now. Can I still book a newborn session?

I’m happy to photograph newborns past the two week mark, but please keep in mind that my posing workflow will be different due to your baby being more alert, awake, and more resistant to certain poses. I'll be sure to keep your little one comfortable in the poses appropriate for their age, and we're sure to get lots of awesome open eye contact portraits, too!

What time are your newborn sessions?

Newborn portrait sessions are scheduled at 10am, as I've found that babies are typically sleepier and more content in the morning hours. This allows for a calmer session during baby's best hours of the day. In the late afternoon and evening hours, many newborns become more alert, fussy, and less cooperative (same goes for young siblings who will be participating in the session!) making it more challenging to achieve those peaceful, sleepy images parents love.

How do I book my session?

You can send a session request under the tab "Book Your Session," or get in touch through the "Contact Me" tab. I'm looking forward to working with you!

Booking Confirmation Policy: Once your session request has been accepted, you will receive an email to complete the booking. Please complete booking within 48 hours by submitting payment, completing the booking contract, and filling out the questionnaire to reserve your session date and time. If the booking is not completed within this 48-hour period, the session date and time will be released and made available to other clients.

Can I have a Saturday session, insead of a weekday session?

Often, a weekend date is needed due to siblings being in school and other family members working during the week. I do my best to offer weekend sessions whenever possible, while also considering my own family’s activities, sports, and schedule. Feel free to send me a request and let me know if you are hoping for a weekend spot, if available.

How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?

Waiting is the worst, right?!! I understand the anticipation of seeing your final photos. My editing process typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the volume of images and the complexity of editing required. As always, I prioritize quality and attention to detail to deliver exceptional images that you're sure to love!

Can we choose the location for our outdoor session?

Absolutely! Location plays a significant role in capturing unique and personalized photographs. Whether it's at your home, a scenic outdoor location, or a venue of your choice, let's chat about having your session in a place that holds meaning to you. I'm also happy to send you my Location Guide for some great local location ideas!

What happens if the weather is unfavorable on the day of our outdoor shoot?

If the weather doesn't cooperate on the day of your outdoor shoot, we will reschedule the session to a date and time that suits us both. Should rescheduling not work out, I am happy to apply your session fee to a future portrait session.

When is the best time to have my maternity session?

The best time for maternity portraits is when you are 32-36 weeks. Please book your maternity session at least two months before this time so an open date is securely held for you.

Can my husband and other children join in the maternity session? What about my dog?

Yes, yes, and definitely yes! Including your loved ones in this exciting time is encouraged! And we wouldn't leave out your four legged baby! Should you like to include your pup in the maternity session, please have a friend or family member who is not participating in the session accompany your furry friend. It will help to have another person there to entertain your doggy and hold his leash while we are shooting. (Please note that not every outdoor location is doggy friendly.)

Do you supply the maternity gowns?

I do have several gowns and accessories in the client closet! You are welcome to use any maternity gowns and belly sashes in the studio, as well as shabby chalkboards, ribbons, and other accessories. More and more items come in monthly. Be sure to check with me beforehand, as I may have what you need already!
